Be A Hero For Pets, Donate Today!

Every day, Great Plains SPCA works to make the lives of community pets better!  Your tax-deductible donation helps us continue the critical hands-on work we do for the animals that come through our doors each day. Together we can continue to make a difference in lives of animals and the people who love them.

How Your Donation Makes a Difference for each animal

Our average cost of care per animal is $751 per animal. The average adoption fee per animal is $130.  That’s a cost of care gap on average of $621! We’ve listed some of the services we provide all of our animals in our care and the cost of those services. Your donations are vital for use to help close the gap between cost of care and adoption.

You can give this special gift online, or you can mail in a donation. If you are mailing us, simply include a note with details and we will send a personalized notification to you and your honoree. If you have any questions, please contact us at (913) 808-3425. You can also mail your gift: Attn: Development, 5428 Antioch Drive, Merriam, KS 66202.

Scooby was a Great Plains SPCA dog that suffered greatly from severe separation anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. Scooby was at the shelter for more than a year, like so many large dogs that find themselves in animal shelters with few interested adopters due to the pet overpopulation crisis. During Scooby’s time with us, in addition to anxiety medication, our Behavior Team provided intense behavior modification to manage his stress, but ultimately, it was not enough for Scooby and we were unable to save him even with the enormous effort and commitment from staff, volunteers, and Board Members. Scooby was humanely euthanized on October 30, 2023. This was the only peace we were able to provide for him in the end. All donations to the Scooby Fund support our Behavior Team, a group of highly skilled and trained individuals who passionately dedicate their time to helping dogs like Scooby achieve a positive outcome in a forever home.

Providing for Your Pets

There are two things to consider for the ongoing well-being of your pets. Who will care for them when I cannot and who will pay for their care? At Great Plains SPCA, we know that your pets are your family. Their care and comfort can continue uninterrupted should you become incapable of caring for them during your lifetime or as well as upon your death. We can provide the care your pets need at that time and we will work to find them a new loving home. To help cover the cost of their care while we find a adoptive family for them, a donation is required.

Please see the Pet Agreement for more details.
