Employee Benefits

Great Plains SPCA offers competitive pay and is the highest in the Kansas City area for front line animal shelter positions. Employees receive annual performance reviews with the opportunity for salary increases and financial bonuses.

Great Plains SPCA offers a generous paid time off package which increases after just the first year of employment. In addition, we recognize nine company holidays when we are closed to the public: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Because the animals need care 365 days per year, you may be required to work on holidays and will be paid premium for the hours worked and get free lunch.

Benefits are an important part of your overall compensation. Great Plains SPCA offers a comprehensive array of valuable benefits to protect employee health, family, and way of life. Below are some of the core benefits offered to Great Plains SPCA employees.

Great Plains SPCA pays an average of 50% of the health insurance premium for medical, dental and vision for employees who work at least 30 hours per week. Employees can select from four health care plan options.

In addition to the behavioral coverage offered in the medical benefits, we offer a 100% employer paid mental health therapy program called MyStrenths. MyStrengths is a flexible and comprehensive digital counseling program with proven tools and dedicated support for stress, depression, sleep and more. This service provides sessions with both mental health therapists and psychiatrists.

EAP offers immediate support and referral to the most appropriate resource to help employees and family manage everyday life issues such as emotional issues, relationship concerns, coping with a serious illness, substance dependence, childcare, financial, and more.

Great Plains SPCA offers a 403(b) retirement plan to all employees to help support savings for later in life.

Great Plains SPCA pays the full premium for group term life. Employees also have the option to purchase supplemental life insurance.

Disability insurance provides benefits that replace part of an employee’s lost income when they become unable to work due to a covered injury or illness.

Animal Behavior Specialist and Outreach Advocate

Description: This full time, hourly position will provide all animals in Great Plains SPCA care with conscientious and compassionate care, meeting our animal’s behavioral needs, while also working with the public to aid and care to animals in need around the Kansas City area. The Outreach Dog walkers provide enrichment walks in the field to HERO Client-owned animals. You will be responsible for containing HERO-owned dogs while leashing and unleashing them for walks. The expectation is to keep clients’ privacy disclosed and animals safe. Help with creating weather appropriate enrichment. Restocking and organizing garage and van shelving to ensure tidiness.

Pay Range: $17 – $22 per hour

Part-Time Cleaner

Description: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part-Time Cleaner to join our team. This position involves mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, taking out trash/recycling, cleaning windows and more.

Pay Range: $18 per hour

Senior Adoptions Advisor

Description: This results-focused position ensures our pets find the right homes. Our matchmaking approach is centered on creating safe and lasting adoptions.

Pay Range: $19.23 – $26.44 per hour

Animal Care Advocate

Description: This full time, hourly position will provide all animals in Great Plains SPCA care with conscientious, compassionate care, meeting our animals physical and behavioral needs.

 

Pay Range: This position is between $15-$19 per hour depending on experience and breadth of knowledge.

Board of Directors Opportunities:

We are looking for diverse, passionate community leaders with a strong background in finance, development, fundraising and marketing who are willing to bring their experience to help us increase our brand  awareness and financial growth.  While day-to-day operations are led by GPSPCA’s Chief Executive Officer, the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership. The appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected to provide leadership, governance, and oversight. Here’s what you can expect as a member of our Board:

  • Serving on our Fundraising committee and taking on special assignments (1-4 hours per month).
  • Actively participate as Brand Advocate and Ambassador in GPSPCA’s fundraising efforts, events, and donor engagement meetings.
  • Serving as a trusted adviser to the CEO as she develops and implements GPSPCA’s strategic plan.
  • Approving GPSPCA’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions.
  • Being informed of and meeting all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Reviewing outcomes and metrics for evaluating community impact.
  • Reviewing agenda and supporting materials in preparation for quarterly board meetings.
  • Contributing to the annual performance review of the CEO.
  • Assisting the CEO and Board Chair in identifying and recruiting other Board members.
  • Ensuring GPSPCA’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities GPSPCA serves.
