On Court Hold For A Year – Three Dogs Receive Justice

Bubby, Donnelly, and Thor have been in our care for 371 days pending the results of their court case. Each arrived with their own scars from their previous lives, from filed-down teeth to a severely infected limb that required amputation. Throughout this entire year, we have hoped with all of our hearts that they would receive the justice they deserve, and that dream was made a reality last week.

All three dogs were signed over to the Great Plains SPCA and have received all of the medical care they need to live healthy and happy lives. But their story is not over! Below, you can read all about Bubby, Donnelly, and Thor and where they are now.

Bubby – Adopted!

3 Years – Terrier/Hound

Bubby arrived at our shelter with a facial wound that was infected. Our Shelter Medicine Team got him all fixed up, and Bubby spent the majority of the past year in multiple foster homes.

Once his court hold was up, Bubby met so many new friends and fans. Thanks to everyone’s shares and support, he found his forever family.

Donnelly – Adopted By His Foster!

5 Years – Lab/Terrier

Donnelly was found with a severe bite wound across the front of his muzzle that caused significant tissue loss to his chin, lips and tongue. He had broken teeth and a large opening between his mouth and nose. We performed tissue reconstruction, extraction of multiple teeth and neutered him.

Now, with his medical care completed and justice served, Donnelly’s foster family has chosen to “foster fail” and officially adopted him. He will spend the rest of his years spoiled and loved, never experiencing the hardships of his past.

Thor – From Medically Urgent To Adopted

5 Years – Pitbull Terrier/mix

The most gravely injured of the three, Thor arrived with a leg that had several lacerations and deep puncture wounds where the bone was visible. The leg was severely swollen, infected and necrotic. It was clear that amputation was required immediately before the infection spread to the rest of his body. In addition, several of Thor’s teeth were completely flat, as if they had been filed down.

Though his recovery was extensive, Thor received all of the medical care he needed to be happy and healthy. His foster family knew that they couldn’t live without this silly boy in their lives and adopted him soon after the court case was resolved.

The entire year’s cost of care for these three dogs, including housing, food and medical care totals up to $35,490. This is just one example of our dedication to our shelter pets. Thanks to our community’s support, we can take on these cases and provide top-quality care while they await legal justice. Please consider donating for their cost of care, and to all of the other pets who walk through our doors that desperately need our help.
