Nothing’s better than finding their forever home,
but we’re providing the best care until that day comes.
At our 2025 Best In Show Grand Finale, we shared a brief video highlighting our mission and featured Great Plains SPCA Alumnus, Coffee Bean who exemplifies the support and love we share for each pet that comes through our shelter. Thanks to your overwhelming support of our shelter and this event, you helped us raise $186,000!

Healthcare, daily care and feeding, community outreach and education, training, a safe and clean facility, and even the kennel-side treats are all thanks to you.
We have the best shelter support in the area thanks to the best volunteers around. There's always a way to make a difference for our shelter pets and the people who love them.
Great Plains SPCA provides lifesaving services for approximately 6,800 animals annually in the greater Kansas City area. Great Plains SPCA exists because of our caring Kansas City community and generous donors. We offer a lifelong, full-circle approach for pets and their human companions with our three-pronged approach: prevention, adoption, retention.
Our commitment remains to the cities and residents we support. As Kansas City’s premium family shelter, we continue to support eight municipalities, serving over 63% of Johnson County’s total population. Our contracted municipalities, include Overland Park, Leawood, Lenexa, Prairie Village, Lake Quivira and Johnson County Parks Department and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department.
