Young Professionals Board
Who are we?
We are a group of service-driven young professionals who are dedicated to saving homeless pets by increasing awareness and raising funds for Great Plains SPCA’s (GPSPCA) lifesaving mission and serving as role models in our communities. As advocates committed to GPSPCA’s no-kill mission, YPB members help homeless pets through networking, volunteering and planning the YPB’s annual fundraising events, and engaging others to support our great organization.
GPSPCA is an independent no-kill shelter, supporting a 97% live release rate, guaranteeing life for 5,000 homeless animals, and providing lifesaving services for animals in the greater Kansas City area. GPSPCA exists because of the caring Kansas City community and generous donors. We offer a lifelong, full-circle approach for pets and their human companions with a three-pronged approach: prevention, adoption and retention.
Each year, YPB hosts or takes part in several GPSPCA fundraising events, including…
- Charity Bingo (February)
- Pup Crawl (June)
- Paws on the Prairie 5k (September)
- Fall Back in Love with Great Plains (November)
- 12 Bars of Charity (December)
- Many more!
In order to provide the critical support that GPSPCA needs to continue it’s life saving approach, board members are asked to complete specific board requirements during each year of membership.
- Attend a Volunteer Orientation (within the first quarter of joining)
- Attend a majority of meetings, without missing more than three consecutive meetings, which are held on the first Monday of each month at 6:00pm
- Attend at least one major YPB fundraising event per year
- Be willing to secure any of the following for any of our YPB fundraising events:
- In-kind donations, products or services.
- Prize donations
These requirements help us secure life-saving funds for GPSPCA and are vital to the success of both our board in carrying out our mission.
