When sharing on social media doesn’t work

We first shared Holton’s story on Facebook on January 27. Since then, we have issued multiple pleas on social media and one post about him was our most successful ever, reaching more than 80,000 people and shared almost 1,200 times. Yet Holton is still without his hero, and he’s losing hope.

When desperate requests on behalf of pets in need like Holton are ineffective, the animals sit idly by at the shelter. Even with extensive efforts to make their stay with us pleasant, the shelter environment can be stressful and most pets deteriorate the longer they stay with us. While our average length of stay is 26 days, Holton’s has nearly doubled that.

Holton Smiling

Holton needs a home without children under 16, without small animals and where he will get lots of exercise. He has a very high prey drive and displays herding behaviors but is young and trainable. His future family must be willing to follow a behavior modification plan and work directly with our Director of Animal Behavior and Training to ensure his success in the home. He is eligible for Foster-to-Adopt, meaning a potential adopter would foster Holton prior to officially adopting him to ensure it is a good match.

We are trying all we can to find Holton the home he deserves. We are not giving up on Holton, but we need your help to find this pup a foster or adoptive home. Please continue sharing Holton’s story, and if you have a home that sounds like a good fit, consider opening it and your heart to Holton.
