Please join us in congratulating our December Volunteers of the Month! Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization and our shelter pets are lucky to have amazing people like them advocating on their behalf every single day!
Independence Campus: Gina Carnahan
Gina began volunteering with Great Plains SPCA in November 2015 after losing her furry best friend. Volunteering with our shelter pets helped her work through her grief and she even found her new family member, Axel. During her time with us, Gina has volunteered more than 400 hours. Not only does she support our Canine Care Team by walking dogs and socializing them, she also documents each dog’s progress in our F.A.S.T. Team program and recently became our Dog Hero Mentor. Gina says her favorite part of volunteering is, “The comradery of the fellow volunteers. [She loves] watching people meet and take home their new best friend, mentoring the new volunteers and seeing the enthusiasm on their faces.” Gina also enjoys doing the laundry, noting that ‘it wears her out in a good way’! Her valuable insight and ideas are truly appreciated. On behalf of Great Plains SPCA, thank you for all you do and congratulations on becoming our Volunteer of the Month!
Merriam Campus: Karen Stockton Gasser
Karen has been a valued member of our volunteer team for nearly three years, in which she has accumulated more than 900 hours of dog-handling services. Karen can be found walking dogs nearly every morning and works directly with our staff to ensure that each animal receives plenty of love and enrichment. Karen’s love of dogs is what inspired her to begin volunteering with Great Plains SPCA. Karen says, “I like to walk the big dogs, as well as the small ones. I want to see a wagging tail!” Karen also enjoys the relationships she has built with the staff during her time here and says that they are always friendly and engaging. On behalf of Great Plains SPCA, thank you for all you do and congratulations on becoming our Volunteer of the Month!
