Outreach dogs like this need your help

On a typical outreach day last week, the Great Plains SPCA HERO (Humane. Education. Resources. Outreach.) Team drove by a house and noticed a dilapidated doghouse in the backyard. When they stopped to investigate further, they found a dog on a short, heavy metal chain in the muddy yard and another in a crate on the front porch.

The owner of the house, Anthony, was also sitting on the front porch. Upon speaking with Anthony to better understand the situation, our team learned that he was caring for the two dogs, but only one of them was his. He went on to share that Glock, the dog chained in the backyard, belonged to a friend who has recently become homeless. Anthony offered to take Glock in until his owner could get back on their feet, but he was struggling to afford caring for Glock in addition to his dog, Sniper.

Anthony was more than accepting of our team’s suggestions and support. In fact, he shared that he had been wanting to do better by the dogs but simply lacked the resources. Thanks to our HERO Team’s humane, non-judgmental approach, Glock now has a new doghouse, collar and tie out, and Sniper has a separate, secure area to spend more time out of his crate. In just one visit, our HERO Team was able to make simple, but necessary, progress in improving the lives of these two dogs.

But our work doesn’t stop there. Our HERO Team will continue visiting Sniper and Glock to check on them, provide additional resources and make sure their owner has what he needs to care for them.

Your donations make it possible to turn less than ideal situations into success stories. Donate today so we can continue supporting community pets like Sniper and Glock.
