A Note From Tam Singer

Hello Great Plains SPCA Family!

Wow – we did it! We exceeded our Fund the Shelter Challenge goal! Thank you all so much for your incredibly generous support for our matching funds campaign. We achieved 127% of our goal!

• Donations $189,570.49
• Donor Match $189,570.49
• Total “Fund the Shelter” Donations $379,140.98

The last 60 days have been tremendously busy at Great Plains SPCA–not just with our match campaign but also with the worldwide attention we received from the story of our shelter pup Queen, whose tale went viral. Like many others, I had friends tell me they had seen Queen’s story on news outlets from England, Australia, South America and all over! It is wonderful that her story touched so many and highlighted the plight of many other shelter dogs. Queen was adopted and is enjoying life and her new family in her forever home. She even has her own Queen’s Facebook page if you would like to stay in touch with her.

This past weekend we had another match, but this time it was the Kansas City Mega Match Adoption event sponsored by Petco Foundation. GPSCPA participated along with KC Pet Project, MidWest Animal Rescue, and Lawrence Humane Society. It was a huge success! 131 GPSPCA animals and a total of 452 animals from all four shelters are sleeping in new homes this week.

After a very busy September and October we are excited to share with you our “Fall Back In Love with Great Plains SPCA” event on November 3 here at our Merriam campus. We will have adoption specials, bounce house for kids, food truck courtesy of The Peaceful Pig, face painting, pumpkins and more! The featured event is the Shawnee Police Department K9 Unit demonstrating their life-saving work. The event is free but we welcome donations of dog toys and canned cat and kitten food. Please tell your family and friends!

Since becoming CEO of GPSPCA, I have focused on creating a kind culture rooted in grace, accountability and empowerment that supports our animals, staff, volunteers, donors and guests. I am incredibly committed to this organization and the work we do and we know that we could not do it without the assistance of our wonderful donors and volunteers. I love hearing from those who are passionate about this organization and welcome you to share your ideas or questions. Please feel free to reach out to me directly if you wish to connect. My door is always open.

As always we appreciate your generosity that enables the work we do to help dogs like Queen, the 131 animals adopted at Mega Match and so many more. Without your donations our work is not possible.

I wanted to end by sharing a quote that resonates deeply with me “A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” –Amelia Earhart
