Lend A Paw Donation Match Drive

Last month, our HERO team was contacted about a home with several cats in need of help. Upon arrival, our team discovered this was not a single-family home, but an apartment complex in KCMO littered with numerous injured, sick and deceased cats. Over the past weeks, our dedicated HERO team has worked tirelessly to help and taken in and cared for over 40 cats and kittens. Amethyst was just one of those cats who, after having been shot in the leg several times, required surgery to have it amputated.

Stories like this reflect the massive need for shelters like ours. Great Plains SPCA is a private no kill shelter, serving more than 4,000 animals annually. We receive no government funding and depend entirely on donations and revenue from adoptions and our other services that support our animals.

Each time you donate to Great Plains SPCA you ensure animals just like Ellie Mae are not turned away. Ellie Mae is the sweetest pup. This little springer spaniel is three-and-a-half years old and was recently surrendered to us by her owner. Ellie Mae has urinary incontinence and requires ongoing medicine and supportive care to help her lead the life she so truly deserves.

From June 1st through July 31st, we have a huge goal to raise $325,000 to support our life saving mission. We are incredibly fortunate that an anonymous family is matching ALL donations received during this time up to $150,000!

While the average cost of care per animal at the shelter is $751, our average adoption fee is just $130. The large gap between what we frequently need to invest in our pets to make them ready for adoption medically and behaviorally and our adoptions fees highlights how critically we need your financial support.

Great Plains SPCA relies on the wonderful generosity of our donors, volunteers, foster families, and supporters. Will you “Lend a Paw” this summer to help us reach our goal of $325,000?

Thank you so much for all you each give and do for the animals in our care. We simply could not do what we do without you – THANK YOU!
