Volunteer Spotlight: October

Please join us in congratulating our October Volunteers of the Month! Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization and our shelter pets are lucky to have amazing people like them advocating on their behalf every single day!

Merriam: Laura Luckert

Laura Luckert has been volunteering with Great Plains SPCA since March 2014. In this time, Laura has accumulated more than 800 hours of dedicated service!  She can be found helping out first thing in the morning, working to ensure that our dogs are exercised and ready to begin their day. Laura’s vibrant personality is appreciated by the staff, volunteers and animals she interacts with. When it comes to Laura’s favorite aspect of volunteering, she says “I love dogs, period. I also love being free to come and go without a schedule, and being allowed to interact with dogs in many different ways…walking, playing in the yards or just hanging out under a shady tree.” On behalf of Great Plains SPCA, thank you for all you do and congratulations on becoming our Volunteer of the Month!

Independence: Lynda Loomis

Lynda Loomis has been volunteering with Great Plains SPCA since August 2015. Since then, Lynda has dedicated hundreds of hours to help engage with prospective adopters when they walk through our doors. She originally signed up to volunteer after retiring to help walk dogs until she thought of an amazing idea- decorating Cat Colonies. When Lynda isn’t at the shelter, you can find her at multiple off-site events selling our branded retail! Aside from off-site events, Lynda is volunteering her time to collect wet dog and cat food for the shelter. In fact, that has been her favorite aspect of volunteering with Great Plains. She says, “During my first kitten season, I saw volunteers and staff crying because there was no wet food for dogs and cats.” She said, “I think I can help with that!” Since then, her help with donated wet food has blossomed into much more. On behalf of Great Plains SPCA, thank you for all you do and congratulations on becoming our Volunteer of the Month!
