Volunteer Spotlight: July

Please join us in congratulating our May Volunteers of the Month! Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization and our shelter pets are lucky to have amazing people like them advocating on their behalf every single day!

Independence Campus: Kim Stowers

Kim, a local teacher, decided to volunteer her spare time over summer break with Great Plains SPCA because of her passion for animals. Kim has already logged more than 300 hours of service in a few short months. Kim is always flexible and willing to assist wherever needed, and she has become a very familiar face around the shelter. She is well-versed and comfortable in many different areas of animal welfare. Recently, she added on the role of Events Ambassador, and works several community and signature events including KC Pride Fest, Vegfest and Zumpupalooza.

Kim says, “I think the most gratifying thing about being here is bonding with the animals. Seeing them change from shy and fearful at the time that they come to the shelter, to happy, loved, adoptable pets makes me so happy! This only happens because of the love and care given by the staff and volunteers.”

Thank you for all that you do, and congratulations on being our July Volunteer of the Month!

Merriam Campus: Kim Goings

Kim is one of our most dedicated cat volunteers, and her bright and uplifting attitude can be felt every time she is in the Cattery! Kim has been with Great Plains SPCA since September 2013 and has served more than 1,000 volunteer hours, spending most of her time as a Cat Hero. Kim’s favorite part of volunteering is helping find the perfect match for a family. “I enjoy all of it, but that is especially exciting,” she says. “Any time I get to help load a kitty into a carrier to go home is a good day!”

On behalf of Great Plains SPCA, thank you for all you do Kim and congratulations on becoming our July Volunteer of the Month!
